Tom and Jerry

Tom was actually originally named “Jasper.” He is usually but not always, portrayed as living in a comfortable middle class house. Jerry (originally named “Jinx”) is a small, brown mouse that normally can be found living behind a hole on a wall in Tom’s house. This is the setting that typically determines the conflict between Tom and Jerry. In most cases, Tom is no match for Jerry. Jerry is both smarted and stronger than Tom. Although cats typically chase mice to eat them, it is quite rare for Tom to actually try to eat Jerry. Most of his attacks on Jerry are just Tom trying to do his job and kick Jerry out of the house. In any case, Jerry usually wins against Tom. Regardless, Tom and Jerry are ultimately great friends. Their fights are more playful than mean spirited.  They seem to enjoy their rivalry.

Spike is the dog featured in this free coloring page. He is unusually friendly with both Tom and Jerry in this episode. However, Spike is depicted as an easily angered but just as equally easily fooled bulldog. It is not unusual for him to attack Tom for bothering him but he can easily turn on Jerry. At times Spike helps Jerry without even knowing it as Spike targets Tom and fails to realize Jerry’s hand in Tom’s antics.
